May 2026 Update — The Jersey Girl Is Almost Back and the Whales Are Right on Schedule
If you’ve been checking this page wondering when the trip reports start up again — good news. The Jersey Girl is in the final days of her repower project at the boatyard and we expect to be back in the water very soon.
Three brand new Scania engines. 2,100 horsepower total. New exhaust, new shafts, new bearings, new electronics throughout. Once the Coast Guard completes sea trials and inspects every inch of the boat, she gets cleared and we’re back out of Belmar Marina doing what we do.
As for the whales — the timing is working out almost perfectly. The cold spring pushed activity later than usual, with only scattered sightings off Brooklyn so far. But the water is warming fast and we expect the whales to arrive right alongside the boat. We haven’t missed a thing.
