November 4th Trip Report – Election Day Whale Watch

We had an amazing group onboard today from the Manalapan High School science classes, and what a trip they picked! The students were treated to four different humpback whales, all feeding just one to two miles off the beaches of Spring Lake, Sea Girt, and Manasquan.

Even with the breeze, the ocean stayed surprisingly calm, and it turned into a fantastic morning on the water. The kids were completely absorbed—smiling, cheering, and taking photos as the whales surfaced close by. You could really see the transformation: students who stepped on the boat thinking, “We’re just happy we’re not in school,” suddenly turning into excited marine-life explorers the moment they saw their first wild whale.

On the ride back toward Belmar we even picked up a bonus—a pod of dolphins cruising alongside the boat, giving everyone one more unforgettable moment.

A huge thank-you to Tom from Manalapan High School for continuing to bring his classes out with us year after year. His students are always a pleasure, and today was no exception.

If you know any schools interested in bringing science, marine biology, or environmental studies to life, have them email or call us.

We’d love to host them aboard Jersey Girl, the Jersey Shore’s only full-time whale-watching boat.
