We’ve made progress negotiating with the whales. The weather department remains difficult to reach. 😂☀️🐋
Here’s what happens when the weekend forecast shows one beautiful sunny day and one day with a 30%, 50%, or 60% chance of rain:
Practically everybody books the sunny day.
The other day sits there like it wasn’t invited to the party.
The last couple of weekends, we’ve sold out one day while the less popular day’s trip still went out with a smaller crowd. Maybe fewer blue skies, but still a perfectly worthwhile afternoon looking for whales.
Apparently, the whales hadn’t checked the weather app.
If you’re looking at what I call a “bluebird day”—bright sunshine and a beautiful forecast—please book early. Everybody else is looking at that same little sunshine symbol on their phone. You don’t want to arrive at the dock and discover they all booked before you did.
But don’t automatically write off the other day. A chance of rain doesn’t tell the whole story about conditions on the ocean, and forecasts have been known to change after rearranging everyone’s weekend. 😂
Here’s how we handle it aboard Jersey Girl:
🌊 If the water is too rough for a safe, comfortable trip, we don’t go.
🌦️ A possibility of showers doesn’t automatically cancel whale watching. We have an indoor cabin, and on many of those smaller-crowd days, there’s room for everyone to step inside if needed.
📡 Our captain monitors marine forecasts, conditions, and onboard radar. We can adjust our route when appropriate, but safety makes the final decision. Sometimes that means staying at the dock.
The whales are already wet. The dolphins have referred all weather complaints to their union representative. 🐬
So book those beautiful days early, and give us a call before deciding a little cloud on your phone means the whole day is a washout.
We often have tickets available at the dock—but sometimes the answer is, “We wish you’d booked yesterday!”
