🐋 WHALE NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE: They brought a friend. And moved the meeting farther away.
We returned to the bargaining table today, Thursday, September 17, only to find TWO humpback whales side by side near the Scotland Buoy, up by Ambrose Channel, blowing off a little steam.
I distinctly remember our gentlemen’s agreement involved moving CLOSER to Belmar.
Apparently, they remember it differently. 😂
Their position was simple: “You asked for more whales. We brought two. We don’t see the problem.”
I explained that the problem was extra mileage and a boat that runs on diesel approaching $6 a gallon, rather than bunker fish.
They responded by surfacing together with New York City in the background.
Honestly, a very strong counterargument.
Our passengers were treated to a GREAT show. Two humpbacks, beautiful views, cameras going, and the kind of excitement that makes the trip worthwhile.
I appreciate the extra whale. I would still like to discuss the extra fuel. Both things can be true. 😂🐋
We’re taking Friday off, giving the whales a day to review our proposed relocation package. Jersey Girl will be back out Saturday and Sunday.

They tell me ’90s T-shirts are back in style. Naturally, I went straight to the ’80s. 😂
If you’re around my age, you probably remember Ocean Pacific. OP shirts were everywhere. To me, nothing said summer quite like those colors, sunsets, and surf designs.
That’s where I took a lot of inspiration for our new Jersey Girl shirt—a little of that old-school beach feeling, with our boat right in the middle of it.
Basically, my memories of the ’80s met my current diesel bill, and we made a shirt. 🐋☀️
I love how it came out, especially on this butter yellow. We have sizes up to 3XL, because some of us need a little more fabric than we did when we were buying OP shirts.
Apparently, my taste in T-shirts hasn’t changed. Just my size.
Maybe the next design will be a Pearl Jam-inspired grunge whale. A humpback in flannel who refuses to surface because he doesn’t want to go mainstream.
We’ll bring that up at the next whale negotiation. 😂
