Best trip of the year so far

Everyone who was on the boat knew how fortunate they were to be whale watching with us today! We had one of our most exciting days to date.  We had a report of two whales all the way up past Sandy Hook and even though it was farther than we normally go, we are committed to finding the whales and giving our guests a great experience.  So we were heading north, past Long Branch, past Sea Bright, towards Gateway National Park. It was a  nice clear day with a beautiful view of the NYC skyline.  Before we got to our intended destination, our naturalist, Danielle, spotted a whale just off to the east so our Captain turned toward that direction.  What a great move that was!  We could see that the whale was lunge feeding which is always fun to watch. But to everyone’s surprise, the whale suddenly breached  completely out of water and made a giant splash as he landed back into the ocean!  The boat erupted with shouts of awe!   Such a beautiful sight to see.  We watched the whale surface a few more times, he even gave us a tail shot with the NYC skyline in the background.  When we got closer to the whale we were able to identify him, and realized that this whale is Ocean! We first encountered Ocean on April 13 and this is our second encounter with him.   And what an encounter it was!  We were thrilled that we saw him breach, never expecting him to do it again, but just a few minutes later, BAM! Ocean breached straight ahead of us! So amazing!  And he wasn’t done showing off, he even breached again and tail slapped making a giant splash.  We could’ve watched Ocean all day but we eventually had to head back to the dock.  But everyone left extremely happy with memories to last a lifetime.  Our guests from Tel Aviv were especially happy because this is a sight they never thought they would see!
