Tuesday, August 18 Whale Watch Trip Report 🐋🐬
What a beautiful day on the ocean aboard the Jersey Girl!
We were hoping to find whales closer to Belmar, but when you’re whale watching, you go where the whales are. We continued north along the Jersey Shore toward Sandy Hook, and our captain was able to locate two humpback whales traveling and surfacing side by side.
The whales were only about a mile and a half off the beach, but approximately 16–17 miles from Belmar. They were very active, and everyone aboard had a great opportunity to watch them together.
We also encountered more than 100 dolphins, making an already great day on the ocean even better.
On our way home, we spotted a third humpback whale in the distance off Deal, New Jersey — much closer to Belmar. We’ll be exploring that area again on Wednesday morning.
