Sorry I haven’t been able to keep up with posting our trip reports on a daily basis! We’ve been busy out on the water, and the good news is that we’ve been seeing whales every day up near Sandy Hook. There’s plenty happening aboard Jersey Girl, even when I fall a little behind on sharing the reports!
Here is our Saturday, September 5 report, based on the sightings reported by our naturalist, Dr. Danielle Browne, PhD.
Afternoon Trip: A Humpback Whale!
Our afternoon trip brought us another wonderful opportunity to see a humpback whale off the Jersey Shore. There is something special about leaving the dock in Belmar and heading out to look for these incredible animals, knowing that an experience like this is available so close to home.
For anyone who still thinks you have to travel to another state to go whale watching, these September trips are a great reminder of what we have right here in New Jersey. We’ve been finding whales near Sandy Hook, and Saturday afternoon continued that exciting stretch of sightings.
Having Danielle aboard adds another dimension to the experience. Watching a whale is exciting on its own, but having a knowledgeable naturalist there to help explain what you’re seeing makes the trip even more meaningful. It’s a chance to enjoy the ocean and learn something along the way.
Sunset Trip: TWO Humpbacks and More in the Distance!
Our sunset trip delivered another exciting outing, with two humpback whales found and several additional whales seen in the distance!
That distinction is worth sharing: we had two humpbacks on this trip, while those additional distant sightings added to the excitement of being out on the water. The ocean certainly gave us plenty to appreciate on Saturday evening.
Then came the ride home.
As Danielle reported, we were treated to one of the most beautiful sunsets we’ve seen all year. After an evening of whale watching, that was a pretty wonderful way to finish the day aboard Jersey Girl. Whales and a spectacular September sunset made this a trip worth remembering.
September Is Still Whale-Watching Season
Summer vacation may be winding down, but our whale-watching season is continuing. If you live nearby and have been waiting until the busiest part of summer passes, consider making September your time to join us.
We have lots of trip options throughout the week, whether you’re planning an outing with friends, bringing the family, or simply making time for yourself on the ocean. You don’t need to be visiting the Jersey Shore to enjoy what’s in your own backyard.
