Fall Whale Watching Trip Report – Belmar to Asbury Park 🐋
There are only a few weeks left in our Jersey Shore Whale Watch season, and fall continues to deliver incredible experiences! Today felt cooler than yesterday with clouds rolling in, but that didn’t stop us from having another unforgettable day on the ocean.
We left Belmar Inlet aboard the Jersey Girl, our big red whale-watching boat, and headed north after hearing multiple whale reports off Deal and Allenhurst. Just off Asbury Park, we spotted our first humpback whale! He didn’t show his tail, but gave everyone an exciting show with several lunges — one right in front of the boat and another as he passed directly underneath. It was incredible to see his massive body glide through the water so close to us.
Later, we found a second whale east of Asbury Park, identified as NYC0091, first recorded in 2018 but still awaiting an official name since he hasn’t yet been sighted on a feeding ground. We also spotted pods of playful dolphins swimming nearby and even saw a stunning rainbow stretching across the ocean.
One passenger shared that seeing a whale was on her bucket list — and today, she checked it off! 🌈🐬
Fall is one of the most exciting times to go whale watching in New Jersey — different whales are migrating through our area, and every trip is unique. Don’t miss your chance to see them before the season ends!
