What an Amazing Day Whale Watching!!

Everyone who was on the boat knew how fortunate they were to be whale watching with us today! We had one of our most exciting days to date.  We had a report of two whales all the way up past Sandy Hook and even though it was farther than we normally go, we are committed to finding the whales and giving our guests a great experience.  So we were heading north, past Long Branch, past Sea Bright, towards Gateway National Park. It was a  nice clear day with a beautiful view of the NYC skyline.  Before we got to our intended destination, our naturalist, Danielle, spotted a whale just off to the east so our Captain turned toward that direction.  What a great move that was!  We could see that the whale was lunge feeding which is always fun to watch. But to everyone’s surprise, the whale suddenly breached  completely out of water and made a giant splash as he landed back into the ocean!  The boat erupted with shouts of awe!   Such a beautiful sight to see.  We watched the whale surface a few more times, he even gave us a tail shot with the NYC skyline in the background.  When we got closer to the whale we were able to identify him, and realized that this whale is Ocean! We first encountered Ocean on April 13 and this is our second encounter with him.   And what an encounter it was!  We were thrilled that we saw him breach, never expecting him to do it again, but just a few minutes later, BAM! Ocean breached straight ahead of us! So amazing!  And he wasn’t done showing off, he even breached again and tail slapped making a giant splash.  We could’ve watched Ocean all day but we eventually had to head back to the dock.  But everyone left extremely happy with memories to last a lifetime.  Our guests from Tel Aviv were especially happy because this is a sight they never thought they would see! Wednesday April 20th trip report Dolphins for miles

We had a nearly full boat for a nice 3 hour tour today where we saw miles and miles of dolphins. We didn’t see a whale today so people on todays trip had awesome weather and get to come again this season to make sure they see a whale.

Saturday trip report 5 for 5 the streak continues

Who is saw the whale off of Seabright today ocean conditions were rougher than normal so we decided not to try to follow the well and we will give people who are on today’s trip a free trip so they can come out and really experience we are watching we did see some dolphins it was a beautiful trip on the way out to see in the world but on the way back it was a spirited ride . Happy Easter and Passover, we rest Sunday no trips Sunday.

Four for Four!

Another amazing day with Jersey Shore Whale Watching! We never know what we will encounter or how the trip will go and this trip was no exception. We headed north to where our sightings have been but didn’t find anything. We traveled even further north past Sandy Hook but could not find our whales. We did have amazing views of the NYC skyline and the Sandy Hook Lighthouse and  National Park. We finally had to start heading back to Belmar, but we all kept looking out for signs  of whales. Just when we thought we weren’t going to find any, Bill suddenly yelled out “WHALE!!” and sure enough the huge splash that he saw was indeed a whale! The whale made a few more huge splashes with his tail as we were carefully approaching where he was. We got great views of
its dorsal fin and tail and we are excited to announce that it is another new whale to add to our catalogue! Four days out and four new whales spotted! Amazing! This whale has a very unique white marking on its dorsal fin that looks like the script letter “N” so we named this whale Neptune. 
Neptune was a lot of fun to watch and gave us lots of chances to take pictures of him including a few great tail shots. Since it took us longer to find the whale today, Captain Alan gave us some extra time so that everyone had a chance to see the whale and get plenty of photos and videos. It was another beautiful day on the ocean, we got to see a humpback whale  and everyone left very happy!  We are booking trips now so don’t miss out- get your tickets today. We’re Three for Three!!
Another amazing day at Jersey Shore Whale Watching!  It’s our third trip of the season and our third time seeing a humpback whale!  It was a beautiful spring day and a perfect day to be out on the ocean.  The seas were calm and the ocean air was as fresh as can be. We headed north out of the inlet towards where our previous sightings were.  We passed Long Branch and traveled a little farther to find our whale but the extra effort was well worth it.  Everyone was thrilled to get their first glimpse of a humpback whale in the wild.  The whale was feeding just below the surface and came up frequently giving everyone plenty of great views and photo opportunities. And we finally got a a view of his tail today!  The boat erupted with ooohs and ahhhs- everyone was so excited!  We believe the whale we saw today was Squirt but we won’t know for sure until we analyze the photos from today and last Saturday when we first spotted him.  On our way back to the marina, guests enjoyed food and snacks in the heated cabin.  But the thrills were’t done for the day.  As we were heading back down the Shark River passenger Linda spotted a Bald Eagle on the radio tower!  What a beautiful bird, majestically sitting on the highest point watching over the river. A little closer to the dock we also saw two ospreys.  We had a very successful trip, indeed!  You never know what you will see but it’s always exciting. We are sailing every weekend and weekdays, too.  Don’t stay home during spring break, bring your kids out for a local adventure. Two for Two Sunday!
Today was the second day of our 2022 season and we topped our first day by finding not one but two humpback whales!! We headed north in the same direction where we found Squirt yesterday. We had to search a little harder today. We passed Long Branch and were up by Sea Bright when we first spotted Squirt. Everyone was so excited to see him. We could see on the fish finder that there was a very large amount of bait fish and Squirt was moving fast under the water feeding on all the bunker fish. As we were trying to keep up with him we spotted a different humpback whale feeding in the same area. We did not get a look at the whale’s tail flukes so we do not know yet if it is in our catalog. We named this whale Cowboy in honor of our two passengers who were visiting from Texas. What a great start to our season! Two days out and two different humpback whales. Our next trip is this Wednesday at 1:30 and then again on the weekend. Come on out with us as we look for Squirt and Cowboy and maybe a new whale you can name. Don’t miss out- book your trip today! Opening Day whale watching Success photos

Our whale watching season started off with a bang! We had perfect spring weather, calm seas and a small crowd. We left the inlet and headed north to search for humpback whales. We were only traveling about 10 minutes when we came upon hundreds of Atlantic Bottle Nose Dolphins. We saw so many dolphins all around the boat. We saw smaller family groups with babies and young dolphins and larger groups too. We spent a little while with them giving everyone on the boat plenty of time to take pictures and videos and just enjoy watching them. Our next stop was finding humpback whales. We continued north past Asbury Park and Deal. We were just off of Long Branch when we spotted our first humpback whale of the season! It was about a mile off shore and we could see it slapping its tail around. As we got closer we could tell that this was a younger whale based on its size. Everyone on the boat was in awe every time the whale surfaced. There is nothing like seeing a humpback whale in the wild! We had plenty of time with the whale so everyone was able to get photos and videos and great views of this majestic animal. The whale was mostly making shallow dives so we never did get to see its tail flukes, but we did get a good look at its dorsal fin that we can use to identify him. We have a database of all the whales we have seen on our trips and each whale is assigned a number. This number is used to identify them for research purposes. While numbering a whale for research is important, calling the whale by its number can be a little drab. So we decided to do something new and fun this year. We are going to allow passengers to name the whales we see on our trips! We often see the same whales numerous times during the season so now our guests will know which whale they are seeing. Joseph DeVoe had the honor of naming our first whale and the name he chose is “Squirt” because of the whale’s small size. We look forward to seeing Squirt many more times this season.
