Whale Watching in New Jersey has reached new heights in 2024, outshining the experiences in Maine and most of Massachusetts. This year has been nothing short of spectacular, with an abundance of large whales appearing just 8 miles off the beaches of Monmouth County. Wilmer has firmly established itself as the whale watching capital of New Jersey. If you’re looking for an unforgettable adventure, come out with Jersey Shore Whale Watch aboard the boat, Jersey Girl, for a once-in-a-lifetime event. Did you know that only one percent of the world’s population will ever see a humpback whale or any large whale in their lifetime? This summer’s offshore trips offer a unique opportunity to be part of that exclusive group.
Today’s trip on July 16 was another incredible journey. We ventured only 8-9 miles off the coast of Monmouth County and encountered 10 whales, including mothers with calves and enormous breaching whales. These magnificent creatures put on a show, with tails thrashing and bodies leaping clear out of the ocean, landing with a spectacular splash that thrilled everyone on board. Our boat, Jersey Girl, carried about 60 passengers, and it’s designed to be handicap accessible, making it easy for people of all ages to enjoy the experience. The boat also features an air-conditioned cabin, though you might not need it with the refreshing ocean breeze providing natural cooling. Today’s temperature was a perfect 80 degrees, sunny with a pleasant breeze, creating an ideal setting for whale watching.
This year marks the seventh year of whale watching for Jersey Shore Whale Watch, and it has undoubtedly been our best season yet. The sheer number and size of the whales we have seen are unprecedented. Humpback whales, fin whales, and even white whales have all been spotted off the coast of New Jersey. Bird enthusiasts will also be delighted, as these trips are loved by political bird followers. This incredible season has left us in awe, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer holds.
