Frequently Asked Questions

Clear answers to help you book with confidence

Booking & Tickets-

How long is the whale watch?
Most whale watching trips last approximately 3–4 hours. Trip length may vary slightly depending on weather and whale activity.
Yes. Every passenger needs a ticket, including children. This ensures proper seating and safety compliance.
Date changes are handled according to our weather and cancellation policy. Please review the full policy on the booking page before purchasing.

Whale Sighting Guarantee-

How does the guarantee work?
If no whales are seen during your whale watch trip, you’ll receive a complimentary return trip. Simple and honest.
No. The Whale Sighting Guarantee applies to whale watching tours only, not dolphin or special event cruises.

What You’ll See-

What whales do you usually see?
We most commonly see humpback whales, along with dolphins and seabirds depending on the day and conditions.
We follow respectful wildlife viewing guidelines. Whales decide the distance — every encounter is natural.

What to Bring-

What should I wear?

Dress in layers. It’s often cooler on the water, even on warm days.

Yes, food and drinks are allowed unless a special event trip states otherwise.

Seasickness-

What if I get seasick?

If you’re prone to motion sickness, take preventative medication before boarding, stay hydrated, and focus on the horizon.

Weather, Parking & Arrival-

What happens if weather is bad?
Camp runs rain or shine. The Jersey Girl has indoor space and covered outdoor areas. If the Captain determines the ocean is unsafe, the program will stay in the river. The Captain has final say on conditions.
Aboard the Jersey Girl at the Belmar Marina: 905 Route 35 S, Belmar, NJ Easy access tip: You can enter the marina from 7th Avenue & Main Street and go under the Route 35 bridge, so you don’t have to cross Route 35. The Jersey Girl is very close to the big bridge.

Drop-off is recommended at 8:45 AM.
Camp begins at 9:00 AM.
Pick-up is 12:00 noon (please be there by noon).

Yes—safety is our top priority. Life jackets are available for everyone. Staff are CPR / safety trained. Target staffing ratio is approximately 8 campers to 1 staff member.

Dolphins are guaranteed during the week. Whales are possible (nature has the final say). If dolphins are not seen during the week (extremely unlikely), a free return pass will be provided for the camper and one guardian.

If you miss a day, you miss a day. There are no make-up days.

Refund Policy & others

What is your refund policy?

However, you may switch to a different camp week if there is availability, and/or transfer your child’s spot to another camper (friend or family member).

Monday–Thursday are campers-only. On Friday, the camper brings one parent or guardian for free. Friday is a regular scheduled dolphin tour, not an instruction day. Your child is supervised by you (their guardian) on Friday—not camp staff.

If Friday is canceled, we will provide a voucher for the camper and guardian to return on a different day during Summer 2026.

By participating, you allow us to use general camp photography for social media and marketing. We are not focused on photographing individual children—we keep it general and respectful.

The camp is run by staff with teaching backgrounds, marine science students, and working scientists. The program is designed to be educational, safe, and unforgettable.
